The Echo of Regret by Jillian Liota

The Echo of Regret by Jillian Liota is now live!

Bishop Mitchell is destined for baseball greatness – until an injury brings him home before he ever truly gets his shot. Now, he’s biding time back in Cedar Point. Helping coach his high school team, hanging with friends…and, apparently, falling for his high school girlfriend all over again.

Gabriela Ventura enjoys her small town life: a few close relationships, a thriving pottery business, and teaching ceramics is more than enough. So when the boy who broke her heart returns to town, the last thing she’s interested in is rekindling a friendship. Or anything else.

When Bishop and Gabi get partnered together at work, they cautiously take a trip down memory lane. The laughter the banter, the chemistry…it’s all just as good as they remember, and slipping back into their routine proves easier than either could have imagined.

But what isn’t easy is healing old wounds. With Bishop’s days in Cedar Point counting down and their future uncertain once again, the two must decide: is what they share worth letting go of their regrets from the past?

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

My review:

“I love you.  I’ve always loved you.  And I don’t think I’ve ever stopped.”

After an injury, baseball player Bishop Mitchell returns home to his small hometown of Cedar Point to recuperate.  Uncertain about his future playing professional baseball, he agrees to help coach his high school baseball team while in town.  After running into his high school girlfriend, Gabriela Ventura, and being partnered with her at school, he cannot help falling for her again.

“We were…like a broken bone, and when you reset it, there’s going to be some hurt.  It hurts and it’s complicated and it isn’t always pretty.  There’s work that goes into getting things set right, but it happens…It happens, and I know what we have is worth it.”

Gabriela Ventura loves Cedar Point and after college, she returns to start her pottery business.  She tries to avoid him when Bishop returns to town, but they get stuck working together.  All the feelings and memories she thought she had buried came back as they worked together.  Now she must decide if she will risk her heart again and be left behind when he leaves town.

The Echo of Regret is the fourth book in the Cedar Point series. This was a new-to-me author, and I am so glad I had the opportunity to read this book. This second-chance romance was heartbreaking and filled with emotions. I loved watching Gabriela and Bishop rediscover their friendship and love for one another. This was a wonderful book, and I loved every minute of it.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

The Wildcat (Playing to Win, #2) by Bella Matthews

The Wildcat

(Playing to Win, #2)

by Bella Matthews

is now available

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Blurb:

What do you get when you mix a devastatingly handsome hockey player who doesn’t do casual with a blonde bombshell cheerleader who doesn’t do serious?

I was supposed to be taking the summer off from dating. . . and flirting. . . and men in general. A cleanse. It sounded great in theory. But theory went out the window when my own personal kryptonite sat on the barstool next to mine.

Six feet, five inches of stacked muscle and chiseled features, he exuded a cocky confidence that was hard to miss and even harder to resist. This man was delectable. Like a decadent piece of chocolate cake, tempting me to indulge.

And that was before I knew how he tasted.

The rules were simple:
One night.
No names.
No strings.

Until my handsome stranger turned out to be the hot-as-sin star forward for the Philadelphia Revolution hockey team. A single dad with two adorable kids who tug at my heart strings, and a family almost as obnoxious as my own.

But Cross Wilder isn’t looking for a hookup.
And I’m not looking for a fairytale.
The question is. . . do I have a choice?

My review:

“She asked me not to let go even when she runs. I guess she hasn’t realized I’m not going anywhere. Unless it’s to chase her.”

The Wildcat is the second book in the Playing to Win series which is about the 2nd generation of the Kingston family (Defiant Kings series) and the Sinclair Family (Kings of Kroydon Hills). It’s not necessary to read the previous series but if you like to have all the background information then reading them in order is best.

This is Cross Wilder and Everly Sinclair (oldest daughter of Declan and Annabelle Sinclair from Always Earned, Never Give) story, which was full of steam.  Everly is a cheerleader who doesn’t want a relationship and Cross is a single dad of two and a hockey player who knows what he wants.  I loved watching this hockey player fall for the football star’s daughter.

“Sorry.  I’ve been on a bit of a cleanse, And you…”

“Well, you’re like a big old, tempting piece of chocolate cake.”

I loved the first-generation Kingston and Sinclair family’s world and was unsure if the second generation could meet such lofty standards. But I was worried for nothing because this series started off with a bag and this book kept it going.  The book was outstanding, and I loved every minute of it. The witty banter, hilarious text chains, and large family drama were everything I expected from a Bella Matthews book.  This age-gap, single-dad romance hooked me on the first page and kept me reading until the very last word.  I cannot wait for the next book in the series!

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Redeeming Rabbit by Harley Stone

Redeeming Rabbit
Harley Stone
(Dead Presidents MC Book 11)
Publication date: September 25th 2023
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

Rabbit:
They say combat trauma can be the noose you hang from, the cross you bear, or the cliff you scale to survive. But I was a f*ck up long before my Army enlistment and the resulting PTSD. Thanks to the veteran MC that took me in, I’m coping with my condition. Mostly.

Until her.

The Complete Package. She’s way out of my league. I shouldn’t have a chance in hell with Elenore, but I got a peek under her hood and the sexy scientist has a screw loose.

Good thing I’m the best damn mechanic in Seattle.

Elenore:
I never once contemplated murder until my sister showed up bruised and bloody on my doorstep. Now, my intellect has overridden my morals to create an extermination plan with a 98.3% success rate.

Relax, I won’t actually kill anyone. Probably.

But he might.

Who knew I’d find a kindred spirit in my self-appointed tattooed biker bodyguard? Rabbit’s alarmingly protective but the most fascinating person I’ve ever met. And the sight of his bare chest just made the lock on my bedroom door spontaneously combust.

A tempest on the outside with a soft, gooey center, he could be the one.

If I’m strong enough to love him.

The Dead Presidents MC is a brotherhood of military veterans formed to help vets reintegrate into civilian society. They’re the good guys… mostly. Complete, standalone HEA love stories. No cheating, no cliffhangers.

My rating; 4 out of 5 stars

My review:

Redeeming Rabbit is the eleventh book in the Dead Presidents MC series.  This was a new author for me, but I had no trouble reading the book as a standalone.  Once I started reading, I couldn’t put the book down.  It was an opposite attracts romance that was entertaining with a side of suspense.

Rabbit and Elenore seemed like a bad watch to begin with.  Rabbit was a loose cannon, but somehow, they grounded each other.  I loved watching their self-confidence grow as their relationship grew.  I am glad I had the chance to discover this author and would read it again.

EXCERPT:

Rabbit

Elenore hadn’t flipped out on me for invading her privacy. Nor had she asked me to leave. If she dropped her towel and started dressing right there in front of me, I’d likely cream the inside of my jeans. She was perfect. And not just because she was brainy, beautiful, and had her shit together, but because she was fucking weird. I’d been through her entire apartment, and nothing was out of place. Her closet was arranged by color with pictures of her goddamn outfits to keep them straight. Nobody was naturally this clean, organized, and meticulous.

Elenore had a screw loose.

Which meant I might actually have a chance with her.

“You left the door open,” I blurted out, sounding like a fucking idiot.

“To my apartment. Not my bedroom.”

“It wasn’t locked.”

She added pants to the pile of clothes in her arms and turned to face me. “I need to get dressed.”

I wanted to tell her to go right ahead but decided not to push my luck. Still clutching the sexy photos I’d filched, I said, “These are mine.”

Blurb:
Why are the cocky ones always the hardest to resist?

Because this man . . . this man is temptation personified.
He’s six feet, four inches of rock-solid, golden muscles that are inked to perfection and proudly displayed every time he steps into the cage. And I’m the idiot who agreed to stay with him for the next few days.

Hudson “The King” Kingston knew he had a fight coming up when he risked himself to save me. How could I say no when he needed a friend to help him out?
Because that’s exactly what we’ve always been—friends.

Friends who flirt.
Friends who tease.
Friends who never cross that line.
Ever.

The problem is the more time we spend together, the more things shift between us.
But no matter how much I wish he could be my first, he’s never been a relationship guy,
and I refuse to settle for anything less.

I know I can trust him with my life, but can I trust him with my heart?

Another Christmas From Hell by R.L. Mathewson

Another Christmas From Hell
R.L. Mathewson
(Neighbor from Hell, #13)
Publication date: November 4th 2022
Genres: Adult, Comedy, Contemporary, Romance

The last thing that he wanted was to fall in love with his brother’s best friend.

From New York Time’s bestselling author R.L. Mathewson comes the next installment in the disturbingly funny romantic comedy series, Neighbor from Hell.

It was time to move on.

Granted, Cayley would have preferred to wait until after Christmas, but with her best friend somehow managing to get her fired and evicted in the same day, she had no choice but to move into the apartment across from the man that really didn’t seem happy to see her.

That was fine.

More than fine because if she could handle her best friend making her life a living hell and an ex-fiancé that was determined to get her back, then she could handle the man that was willing to do whatever it took to let the past destroy them both.

He couldn’t believe this was happening again.

For years, Bryce had been going out of his way to avoid Cayley, hoping that she would finally move on, but now that she was back, he realized that he no longer had a choice.

He was going to have to break her heart.

At least that was the plan until the little brat turned the tables on him, making him wonder how much longer he was going to be able to lie to himself even as one thing became painfully clear…

This was going to be the worst Christmas ever.

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

My Review:

Another Christmas from Hell is the thirteenth book in the Neighbor from Hell series.  This author is new to me and I’m not sure why it has taken me so long to discover her books.  I found the book to be hilarious with characters that were genuine and lifelike.  I loved books with big close-knit families and the James family fit that description perfectly.  The siblings were full of mischief and the teasing and sarcasm between them were hilarious.

Bryce believed that Cayley, one of his brother’s best friends, loved him since they were children.  He tries to avoid her, but his siblings have moved her across from his apartment, making it hard to do.  Cayley lost her job, her apartment, and ditched her ex-fiancĂ© in one day.  Now her best friend has made her life worse by renting her an apartment across from Bryce.  Can a bet give them a chance to really get to know each other this Christmas and give them a chance at their HEA?

This was a fun book for the series and can be read as a standalone with no trouble.  I really enjoyed it and look forward to reading more of the author's books in the future.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.
