My review:

Single mother of a twelve-year-old, Palmer Clark had no intentions to fall for the legendary baseball player that dropped into town.  After her past relationships, she wants someone stable and that will be there for her.  She wants a forever kind of man and Cole was not that man.  So, keeping him at a distance should be easy but Cole volunteering to coach the baseball team her son Etan was on made it difficult.  Especially when the connection between Ethan and Cole was so strong.

Retiring from major baseball, Cole Beck was just stopping by his hometown to visit his parents before he decided on the next step in his life.  He wasn’t looking for a relationship or a forever but then he wasn’t expecting Palmer either.  Can he overcome her fears and reach that sweet spot in life?

The Sweet Spot was a small-town romance with all the feel-goods.  This was an amazingly sweet story full of emotions and heart-touching moments.  I loved the connection Cole had with Ethan and how he stepped up to help coach the small-town baseball team.  He was so swoon worthy and I loved watching him slowly woo and break down all of Palmer’s walls.  They make such a perfect couple.   I enjoyed the book from this author who is still very new to me and look forward to more books from her.

My review:

The Marriage Arrangement is the third book in the Anything for Love series by Kim Loraine, a new-to-me author.  I had no trouble reading the book as a standalone and I am glad I had a chance to read it.  The mention of an arranged marriage and hockey player caught my attention. 

Taylor Savage wanted out of his contract with the dating app and the only way he could get out of it was to get married.  The only woman he would consider was Becca, the woman who had gotten away.  He had fallen for her instantly, but he had messed up too many times.  Now he needs a wife and she is the perfect woman.  If only he can keep his hands to himself and not fall in love with her. 

Becca Barnes’s dream was to open a bakery with her sister but they had run into problems with the shop they had rented. All the appliances needed to be replaced and it needed to be remodeled.  Taylor’s proposal of an arranged marriage between them for a year in return for him making the repairs for the bakery was too good for her to pass up.  Can she keep her heart from being broken again by the hockey player?

This was an entertaining book and I enjoyed watching Becca and Taylor’s slow-burn romance.  The connection between Becca and Taylor was there from the beginning.  Their relationship started off rocky but eventually, they were able to work out their issues.  I am glad I had the opportunity to read this book and look forward to reading more from the author.

My review:

A Little Too Close is the second book in the Madigan Mountain series.  I read it as a standalone and had no trouble following along.  It was a heartbreaking story of broken family relationships, painful pasts, and slow burning romance. 

The Madigan family’s relationship was rocky and after graduating high school Weston Madigan left home to join the Army as a helicopter pilot.  When his brother calls, he cannot refuse the request to help his family out by starting up a heli-skiing company at the family ski resort.  He leaves the Army and returns home but refuses to stay at the family home.  He finds himself sharing a duplex with the woman he rescued and hired ten years previously before he left.

Callie Thorne was surprised to discover the man who gave her a chance and hired her ten years prior in her kitchen.  She and her daughter Sutton lived there since she was the photographer at Madigan Mountains resort.  Her goal was to grow her photography business and buy a house.

Callie and Weston made the perfect couple and the chemistry between them was off the charts.  I loved watching their relationship grow as they came to know one another.  It was great seeing the brother’s relationship improve as they dealt with the hurt from the past.  I really enjoyed this book and recommend it.

My review:

Reason to Believe is the first book in the Legacy series and it really started the series off with a bang! It was a beautiful heartbreaking story of grief, hope, new starts, and family. Legacy is a small-town in Colorado where everyone knew each other and their sad past. A devasting fire had destroyed the town years ago and killed all but one man on the hotshot team. The town had slowly rebuilt over the years, but everyone had been affected by the death of the team. The team’s children and family members had moved away from Legacy but are now returning and are now trying to reform the Legacy Hotshot team and become certified before the next fire season.

I absolutely adored this book! This author is one of my favorites and this book did not disappoint. I loved watching Knox and Harper as their relationship changed. Knox spent years trying to keep his promise to Ryker, but he was miserable the entire time. The tension between the two was intense and seeing them finally get their chance together was wonderful. I loved this book and highly recommend it. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

EXCERPT:

I slip on my clothes, going for a pair of jeans and a long-sleeved Henley. I push the sleeves up, still heated from the shower. I leave my hat in my locker, opting for a quick swab of styling pomade through my hair. I couldn’t care less what I look like, but Coach always likes us to be somewhat presentable after a game in case we run into any press.

Hungry and ready for my bed, I head out of the locker room and am making my way toward the players’ exit when a throat clears behind me. I glance over my shoulder to find Kate Chapman standing against the wall, her purse draped over her shoulder and a beautiful smile gracing her delicately freckled face.

She quickly gives me a once-over and says, “It was the socks.”

I can’t help it, I let out a low chuckle while slowly shaking my head and turning toward her. Hands in my pockets, I say, “It wasn’t the socks.”

Her mouth drops open in disbelief as she approaches me. “It was so the socks.” She points her finger at me.

“Don’t even deny it.”

“It was all my practice.”

“Yeah, practice with me. Just admit it, Rockwell, you had fun last night, the socks were a good luck charm, and you played your ass off tonight.”

I don’t believe in superstitions, which is unheard of when it comes to a baseball player, but I’ve never geared my play around being a habitual player, either. Instead, I do what feels right. So, believing in socks having a special power and helping me gather some hits tonight—nah, not real. But I will say this—having my socks up reminded me why I was behind that plate. It reminded me of being small again and taking joy in the little things.

Was it the socks? Maybe.

Was it the thought of the girl standing in front of me?

Maybe a little more.

“It wasn’t the socks.”

Her head falls back as she groans. “You’re so stubborn.” She makes eye contact with me again. “Do you realize that?”

“Yeah.” I rock on my heels, trying not to stare at her too much.

Just picture me pitching to you.

When I said that would be too distracting, I meant it. With her softly curled hair and her gorgeous smile that doesn’t seem to ever falter—unless I’m a total dick and walk out on her—she’s caught my eye.

She’s starting to imprint herself on my brain.

She’s starting to make me feel shit I shouldn’t be feeling.

“Well, I’m—”

“What are you doing right now?” I ask out of the blue, surprising myself, and her.

“Uh, I was going to give you a hard time and then go home?” she says with a hint of question at the end.

I nod at her. “Hungry?”

She eyes me suspiciously. “Starving.”

“Want to get some food?”

She chews on her bottom lip, thinking about her answer, and I know it’s not in a joking around way, but more so she’s afraid. Afraid of me, possibly. Afraid for her job, most likely.

So, I add, “You know, to discuss business.”

It’s against team policy to fraternize with the players. I know that, she knows that, but, for the life of me, after seeing that infectious joy on her face, I had to ask her. I had to try to spend more time with her.

“Well, if it’s business . . .” She smiles brightly and then nods behind her. “Follow me.”
