Love Notes & Lifelines (Single Dad Hotline Book 1) by Avery Maxwell

Love Notes & Lifelines

(Single Dad Hotline Book 1)

by Avery Maxwell

The job was simple. Always answer the phone—no exceptions—then solve the caller’s catastrophe as efficiently as possible.

The rules were simpler. They contact you, not the other way around. Never give them your real name, number, or any personal information not required to help a newly single dad keep his head above water.

And never, ever get involved with a caller.

Simple, right?

Becker Hayes was not who I was expecting to call during my shift with the Single Dad Hotline. He’s my boss’s boss. In the boardroom he’s rich, powerful, detached. In my calendar he’s the enigmatic one-time kiss I was never supposed to see again. But on the other end of the phone, he’s vulnerable and reeling from becoming guardian to his young nieces.

I’m not thinking straight when I offer him a little help off the books. Not when my mother’s illness is winning the battle and I’d give anything for a distraction from the loneliness.

So when the Single Dad Hotline blows up my life, what’s a girl to do but say yes to everything he’s offering?

My review:

“I’m marrying you because I’m not me without you.  I need you and want you and will fight to keep you forever.”

“…It’s hard to pick one thing because with Stella, it’s a million pieces that she believes are broken, but truthfully, they fit my broken bits like a beautiful life-sized puzzle.  She makes me whole.”

You can’t control who you fall in love with, but the decision to stay through the good times and the bad is a choice, just as happiness is a choice we make for ourselves.

Parts of me may be broken, but isn’t that what life is?  A bunch of broken people searching for the broken parts of others who make us feel whole.

Love Notes and Lifelines is the first book in the Single Dad Hotline series by Avery Maxwell.  It really set the bar high for this series. I was a huge fan of Ms. Maxwell when I read the Westbrook series, and this book reiterates why I became such a huge fan.  It was beautifully written and entertaining, and the characters were genuine and so easy to love.  The pacing was perfect, and the storyline was memorable.  I love how the main characters’ history is slowly revealed throughout the story.  Stella and Becker were perfect for each other, and I loved watching them slowly grow on each other.  This was such a heartbreaking story, and I cannot wait for the next book in the series.  This is going to be such a great series!

What’s a brokenhearted romance novelist to do when an interview accidentally turns her into the villain?

I’ll tell you one thing—the plan
definitely wasn’t to turn to the man who taught me that happily ever afters exist only on the page. But when Dante Thompson shows up on my front porch with his gorgeous face, golden retriever energy, and an outrageous offer, am I actually considering saying yes?

It’s been six years. I’m older. I should be wiser. My charming ex, a Hollywood fixer, claims he’s got the perfect answer to both our predicaments: A splashy fake relationship that will give everyone something else to talk about.

He’s not wrong. Everyone loves a good love story…even if it’s just for show. But I don’t trust myself to even
pretend to let him in again. Especially considering how things ended the first time around.

Not to mention the secrets I’m still keeping from him. They’re even darker than they were six years ago.

My review:

“I want to fall into bed with you at night, knowing it’s a forever kind of fall.”

“You make me me because I was never whole without you.  I need you because you’re all the pieces I’m missing.”

Falling Into Forever is a stand-alone second-chance romance in the small town of Hope Hollow.  If you have read any of Avery Maxwell’s books, you know to have a box of tissues next to you.  Her stories will rip your heart out, leaving you emotionally crushed, before she puts you back together.  She has a way of making you feel every emotion her characters are going through.

"Between us, the love will always exist. The bad days will come, and I'll love you. The sad days will come, and I'll love you. The hard and happy and shocking days will come, and I'll love you. And because of that, we'll weather your storms and embrace the life we can have together. Love is about the good, the bad, and the ugly, and I'm here for it all, Sayls."

In Falling Into Forever, Saylor fights a constant battle of depression and anxiety.  Dante had left her six years ago, not understanding what she was going through.  Now with both their careers in danger, can she overcome her fears enough to open up to Dante?

“We’ve been through more than our share of heartache, and now I want the forever kind of love with you.”

I absolutely loved this book and couldn’t put it down once I started.  I’ve shared several quotes from the book because I loved so many scenes; I had a tough time narrowing them down.  I loved how genuine the characters were and how Dante was so patient with Saylor.  They were the perfect couple.  Also, the side characters were wonderful, and Poppy was adorable!  I hope to see the Hallow Hope characters again in the future.

Your Last First Kiss:

What you need to know:
ALL NEW SMALL TOWN
👨🏻‍💼CINNAMON ROLL HERO
💞MUTUAL PINING
👨‍👩‍👦‍👦SINGLE MOM
👫FRIENDS TO LOVERS
A REAL LOVE STORY FOR REAL LIFE

My name is Penny Mulligan and my life is a mess.
After a disastrous marriage that left me with three perfect, rowdy boys and an ex-husband whose middle name might as well be Trouble, I’ve got more than enough testosterone in my life. I’m absolutely not getting involved with anyone.
Besides, at the end of the day when I collapse into bed, I’m too exhausted to think sexy thoughts. Except maybe about the one man who makes my life just a little easier…Mr. Wednesday, a.k.a. Dillon Henry.
Handsome, charming, thoughtful—the man is fantasy material.
And not just because he brings me my favorite coffee every Wednesday when he meets with my boss.
I’ll be ready to date again…someday…maybe after my boys are in college and I finally have the energy to think about myself. For now, I’m content to stick to my late-night fantasies about a certain coffee-bringing, suit-wearing flirt.
At least, that’s what I tell myself until Dillon Freaking Henry shows up on my doorstep in my hometown, demanding that I let him out of the friend zone.
He’s not intimidated by the fact that I’m a package deal or that my calendar is chaos or that my ex is a monumental pain in the…neck. Nope. Dillon is determined to change my mind.
Part of me almost hopes he can.

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
My review:

Swoon-worthy. Steamy. Heartbreaking. Fantastic.

These are just a few words to describe this book.  I am a huge fan of this author and I have come to realize it’s necessary to have plenty of tissues available when reading her books.  They have a way of touching your heart and rocking your emotions.  Her characters are genuine and will melt your heart.

“You don’t need another person to take care of, sweetheart.  What you need is someone willing to take care of you.  I want – no - I need to be that man for you.  And I desperately want you to see yourself as I see you.”

Dillion fell for Penny instantly but realized she was committed to her children.  So, for three years he courted her every Wednesday, hoping she would give him a chance.

“Life for me doesn’t contain many rainbows.  But when Wednesday rolls around, I swear everything looks a little brighter.  A little happier.  You’re the rainbow in my rainstorm of a life.”

Single parent, Penny Mulligan’s life was constant chaos.  With three boys and her problems with her ex-husband, she felt she had no time for dating.  She wanted to let Dillion in but was too afraid he would run after discovering the mess her life really was.  Can Dillion finally convince Penny to give them a chance?

This was another amazing book, and I was so happy to see Dillian get his book.  I always look forward to new books by this author and she always delivers.  I cannot wait for Miller’s story.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

“A wedding Is the beginning of the end.” —Lochlan Blaine

Look, I’ve seen firsthand what marriage does to a man. I’m not interested. You want to take the leap? Fine. But have the decency to elope. Leave me out of it.

And then I see her. The happily-ever-after-loving bridesmaid at the wedding I couldn’t get out of.

This flower-wielding bombshell is all wrong for me. But one night together is enough to convince me that she could be the answer to my problem. All I need is three weeks with her…

“Weddings are magic.” —Tilly Camden

I love love. And weddings. That’s how I land the best job in the world: professional bridesmaid. Brides hire me to make sure their big day goes off without a hitch…usually while dressed in taffeta.

I can’t wait until I find the one. The cranky, three-piece-suit-wearing Adonis who smirks at the idea of happily ever after is definitely not him. Lochlan Blaine has “heartbreaker” written all over him.

I should know better. But when a panty-melting one-night stand turns into an offer I can’t refuse, what’s a bridesmaid to do? It’s only three weeks. It’s just business.

I can’t possibly get my heart broken. Can I?

My review:

Lochlan Blaine had been burned by his ex-wife and swore to never marry again.  He hated weddings and never thought he would be attending them just to get a chance to run into Tilly.  She intrigued him but he knew he could never give her what she wanted… Marriage.

Tilly Camden believed in love and thought weddings were magical.  After her rough childhood, she was ready for someone to choose her to love, get married to, and have a family.  She knew Lochlan could never give her the future she wanted but she couldn’t resist wanting him.  Can Tilly convince Lochlan that weddings are magical and to risk his heart again?

We met Tilly and Lochlan in the Westbrook series, but this book is not a part of the series.  It is just as charming though and some of the Westbrooks do make an appearance.  I was so excited to see Tilly and Lochlan get their own book.  Tilly seemed to always be in the background, and it was wonderful watching her come out of her shell and her confidence grow.  It was heartbreaking watching Tilly and Lochlan’s journey to happiness.  Due to her past, Tilly believed that weddings were the way to her happy ever after.  I loved watching Tilly and Lochlan grow as their relationship grew.  This was another amazing book by Mrs. Maxwell, and I cannot wait to see what she has in the future for us.

One Little Kiss by Avery Maxwell

One Little Kiss by Avery Maxwell

Release Date: April 13, 2022

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

Blurb:

My name is Colton Westbrook, and life just threw me into a dumpster fire. I like to have fun. I like to go out, but when one wrong decision puts me in the spotlight with a less than favorable glare, my family puts me on lockdown.

Vermont has become a second home to me, but every time I’m here, I find myself searching for that girl around every corner. One little kiss that happened three years ago in a deserted airport terminal. One little kiss that branded me, scared me, could even ruin me if I were that guy looking for a happily ever after.

But that’s not me. I’m not hiding out in my brother’s home secretly searching for the one that got away. I’m not wearing stupid disguises to fool the paparazzi, hoping she’ll turn up. And I’m definitely not that guy relying on a crazy old lady and her tarot cards to find a girl. Nope. Not me.

I’ll stay a lost boy in Neverland…until the day I realize some people are worth growing up for.

My review:

“Don’t be scared of love, Colty.  Nothing will ever make you happier in life than love.”

One Little Kiss is the third book in The Westbrooks: Family Ties series.  The series is best if read in order because the books do overlap, but they are so good so buckle up and enjoy the chaos!  The Westbrooks certainly know how to create chaos and I assure you; you will fall in love with them.  This was Colton Westbrook’s story, and he has finally met his match!

“You changed me with one little kiss, Winnie Darling.  My world was off-kilter before that kiss, and you set me straight.”

Colton was the prankster of the Westbrook family and was always the one to lighten the mood when things got too serious.  He’s happy that his brothers and friends have found love, but he has been feeling left out lately and lonely.  He’s not ready to settle down and give up his fun, but GG has given him the nickname Pan and when that happens, the matchmaking begins.  Meeting Wendalyn (nicknamed Wendy by GG) at the airport on his way to his best friend’s wedding in Mexico stunned Colton.  He felt like he had found the “more” he had been looking for after one kiss, only to lose it when she disappears.  Can he earn her trust and make her his when he finds her?

“When I find the woman worth growing up for, I promise you, I’ll be all the man she needs.”

“I’m not a Lost Boy, unwilling to grow up.  I’m just a man who was waiting for the one worth changing for.  I’m just a man who’s been waiting for you.”

Wendalyn (Winnie or Wendy per GG) Darling had been raised by a single mom and while helping her mom with her younger brother, Wes, she was working towards going to law school.  She takes a summer job babysitting for a family on vacation in Mexico for two weeks to help pay for her next semester.  She meets Colton at the airport but after she discovers he is a Westbrook; she spends the two weeks avoiding him.  She never expected her life to hit rock bottom when she returned home.

“Everyone needs a rock, Winnie.  Someone to trust.  A partner in this cruel world.  All I’m asking for is a chance to be that for you.”

Winnie and Colton were perfect for each other and balanced each other perfectly.  She was always the responsible one and thinking things through whereas Colton made impulsive decisions and jumped all in.  He was always willing to be in the spotlight and keep things fun, but he really did it to protect his family from being in the spotlight.  Winnie had always felt like she would always be left behind because of her father and stepfather’s abandonment, so she had a hard time trusting that Colton wouldn’t leave her in the future.

This book is my favorite so far in the Family Ties series in fact I loved it so much I had to read it twice before writing my review.  The storyline had several layers and subplots that added depth to the story.  The intrigue, witty banter, and sibling pranks kept me reading until the very end of the book.  I loved the cute-meet between Colton and Winnie and loved watching their relationship grow as their characters grew.  I loved all the “Town Cryer,” “Coordinators of Chaos,” and the Westbrook sibling’s text messages because they are so hilarious.  I think the previous book didn’t have as many and I really missed them.   This is one of those series that I have read several times and each book gets better and better.  I cannot wait for the next book which is Ashton’s because I am sure it will be a shocker!

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

One Little Mistake by Avery Maxwell

One Little Mistake

by Avery Maxwell

Goodreads

Released: July 1, 2021

Blurb:

Easton Westbrook entered my life like an arrogant, grumpy, wrecking ball, and refused to leave.
Our banter is addicting, and nothing I do or say will make him change his mind. But when his mind becomes focused solely on me, I run.
I can’t afford to give my heart away again. Not when I’m barely surviving with the broken one I have.
I have walls up for a reason. Reasons that are none of his business, but Easton is used to getting what he wants. And when he decides he wants me, I’m not sure I’ll survive it.
Lexi Heart entered my life like an arrogant, bossy, she-devil in heels, and I can’t get her out of my head.
She’s always ten steps ahead, and I have to admit, I’m intrigued. With every lash of her sharp tongue, she puts me in my place. But when I peel back the layers of her tough girl exterior, I see the broken shell she’s hiding, and my own walls come crashing down.
We quickly learn that what happens in Vegas doesn’t stay there, and I know I’m done for. I want this girl in every sense of the word, but can I convince her to take a chance on us? Or will the damage from her past be too much, even for true love?
Join Easton and Lexi in their highly emotional journey to a happily ever after. One Little Mistake is an enemy to lovers, accidental marriage romance that will draw you in and refuse to let you go.

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

My review:

One Little Mistake is the first book in the Westbrook series which is a spinoff of the A Broken Heart series.  This is one of those series that you will want to read in order, and it is best to start with the A Broken Heart series.  The timeframes overlap in the books and so reading from the beginning is preferred.  It is also a series that I have read repeatedly and every time I read them; I fall in love again with the Westbrook family.  They are such a large, boisterous, and charismatic family that you cannot help but fall for them.  The heroines are fun, sassy, and full of spunk.  I adore GG and her matchmaking predictions.  She adds such humor to the books and it’s funny to see those big alpha males fear her and her opinion.  This was Easton and Lexi’s story, and I looked forward to it and was so excited when it was released.

“You’re confused, Lex.  A real prince won’t create the happily ever after for you; he’ll stand by your side while you build it together.”

Easton Westbrook was known as the Grumpy Growler by GG and he lived up to that nickname.  After being deceived by the woman he loved and his best friend, he built walls to protect his heart.  Loki rescued Lexi from her ex-boyfriend after he abducted her.  She was trying to rebuild her life and did not need a relationship with her grumpy boss nor to be saved by him.

This was another amazing book by Avery Maxwell.  Each book keeps getting better and better.  I love the devotion the family has to each other and all the chaos that goes along with the large family.  I cannot wait for the next book!

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

One Little Lie by Avery Maxwell

One Little Lie by Avery Maxwell

Release Date: November 5, 2021

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

The Westbrooks: Family Ties Series Synopsis:

The Chaos Continues! You met their chosen family in Broken Hearts. Now get the stories of the Westbrook Brothers as they fight for, and sometimes against, their happily ever after.

One Little Lie Book Synopsis:

She's the only one I'll ever love, but I had to let her go.

Rylan Maroney is the biggest lie I've ever told, and it nearly destroyed everyone in my life. No matter how much it hurts, I can never have her again.

He broke my heart and walked away, but he hasn't let me go.

Halton Westbrook has haunted my life from four thousand miles away for the last eight years. I've tried to move on, but he makes it impossible.

No one knows about us or why I ran away, but he's gone too far this time, and I have to take a stand.

When I return home, he'll have to decide, keep me, or let me go forever.

I'm not sure we'll survive either way.

My review:

“… my mother has an odd habit of adopting people, regardless of age.  If she decides you’re family, you’re subject to our chaos for life.”

This quote says everything you need to know about the Westbrook family.  They are big-hearted, rowdy, dedicated to family, and create chaos wherever they go.  One Little Lie, which is Halton’s (Hatty) book, is the second book in the Westbrook series.  To really understand the series and the family’s close bonds they share with each other, you need to start with the first book in the Broken Hearts series, Cross My Heart.  Also, the books are linked by family secrets and enemies that are slowly revealed through the series.  There are four books in that series and once you start the first book you will be addicted to the Westbrook family.

“Our life is made up of moments in time.  Some moments we capture.  Some moments we royally screw up and some moments bring you right where you were always meant to be.”

This describes Hatty and Rylan’s relationship perfectly.  They met as children and as they got older, they captured their moments together; Rylan with a camera and Hatty with his art. As they finish high school, complications and misunderstandings destroy their relationship.  Now as adults they have a second chance together but first, they must learn to communicate and clear up all the lies and misunderstandings.

This family will touch your heart and pull you into their chaotic lives.  I absolutely love the Westbrook family and their stories are unforgettable.  I have read through the series several times and will certainly do so again.  They keep getting better and better.  I really look forward to the next book which will be Colton’s.  He is the fun brother and the one always up to pranks so seeing him find his one and only should be interesting!

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.
