After an injury, baseball player Bishop Mitchell returns home to his small hometown of Cedar Point to recuperate.  Uncertain about his future playing professional baseball, he agrees to help coach his high school baseball team while in town.  After running into his high school girlfriend, Gabriela Ventura, and being partnered with her at school, he cannot help falling for her again.  

“We were…like a broken bone, and when you reset it, there’s going to be some hurt.  It hurts and it’s complicated and it isn’t always pretty.  There’s work that goes into getting things set right, but it happens…It happens, and I know what we have is worth it.”

Gabriela Ventura loves Cedar Point and after college, she returns to start her pottery business.  She tries to avoid him when Bishop returns to town, but they get stuck working together.  All the feelings and memories she thought she had buried came back as they worked together.  Now she must decide if she will risk her heart again and be left behind when he leaves town.

The Echo of Regret is the fourth book in the Cedar Point series. This was a new-to-me author, and I am so glad I had the opportunity to read this book. This second-chance romance was heartbreaking and filled with emotions. I loved watching Gabriela and Bishop rediscover their friendship and love for one another. This was a wonderful book, and I loved every minute of it.

My review:

“I would put myself in harm’s way a thousand times to get you out of it just once.  No matter what happens, Lucy, I’m always going to have your back.”

Sizzle is the first book in the Remington Rescue Squad, and it sets the bar high for the series.  The intrigue had me hooked from the beginning and I could not put the book down.  The pacing and the balance between suspense and romance were perfect.  The characters were genuine with realistic challenges to overcome.  Their connection was instantaneous and there were definitely some sparks flying around in Station Seventeen.

 

Lucy de Costa learned her lesson about dating other firefighters and stuck to her rule of not dating them.  She was not a rule breaker; but she couldn’t let Sam rush into a burning warehouse by himself.  Even if it meant throwing caution into the air and going against a direct order.  Something about that fire made her question how it started, resulting in her and Sam searching for answers.  But as they work together to catch the arsonist, Lucy finds herself breaking her own rules.

“She hadn't just broken the rules for him. She's shattered them."

Sam Faurier was an adrenaline junkie and impulsive, but he always followed his gut.  He knows he saw someone in the burning warehouse and something about that fire was off.  He was determined to find answers.

This was a great book to start the series off with.  It was full of suspense that kept me hooked on reading.  I loved revisiting with some of the other Remington first responders from other series.  I highly recommend reading it and cannot wait for the next book in the series.
