Synopsis

MOLLY

Moving to Seattle is supposed to be all about getting a fresh start and leaving the bitter man I was becoming behind.

I have new roommates–quirky, sometimes strange, roommates–a nosy, next door neighbor and a grumpy kitty for company, but even surrounded by people, I still don’t feel like I belong. Plus, it turns out the men in Seattle are exactly the same as the ones I left behind, and my string of romantic disconnections continues.

It’s not until one of my roommates, Seven, hits me with some hard truths that I realize where I was going wrong.

Maybe the men aren’t the problem.

I am.

And there’s only one way to fix that.

SEVEN

Being found tied up naked to my bed by my cute new roommate isn’t an ideal way for us to start a friendship.

But apparently a quid-pro-quo is.

He keeps his pretty lips zipped about the compromising position, and I step in as his dating coach. We go out, I point out where he’s going wrong, and he magically becomes dating material.

The problem is, between my codependent brother Xander and a new best friend I can’t get rid of, Molly and I are the target of a matchmaking scheme. My life is way too busy to add another person to it, and Molly is the kinda guy who needs to be made a priority, which I just can’t do. Xander’s medical anxiety takes up too much of my time, and I’ve never found a partner who doesn’t resent it.

I’m determined to help Molly find his ever after.

But that guy will never be me.

EVERYTHING HE COULDN'T by Harlow James

Release Date: September 1

One of my favorite songs growing up was Jessie’s Girl by Rick Springfield.

Ironically enough, I never realized I’d be living out those lyrics in my own life when I fell for my best friend’s girl—and then my best friend, John Schmitt, died.

Add on the fact that she was pregnant with his child and that I’d been harboring feelings for Evelyn months before all of this happened, and well, now?

Now the lyrics to that song don’t sound so bad anymore.

The worst part is, I’m the one to blame for his death which made facing her an even harder pill to swallow, so what did I do? Pretend like she didn’t exist anymore, even though it was virtually impossible because she was everywhere in our small town of Newberry Springs.

Flashforward six months and suddenly Evelyn finds herself in a legal battle she never saw coming, and I can’t just stand by any longer and pretend like my heart isn’t in shambles.

So I suggest the unthinkable.

I offer to marry her, help her prove that she’s a fit mother and her daughter is being raised well despite John not being in the picture.

But Evelyn doesn’t know that being near her gets my blood pumping, even more so after avoiding her for months.

She doesn’t understand that doing this favor for her is a way for me to gain retribution for John’s death and take a chance to find out if she can reciprocate my feelings.

And she doesn’t get that by being there for her and loving her and her daughter that I’m doing everything that my best friend couldn’t.

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
My review:

“They say that grief is love with nowhere to go.  I’ve experienced grief before, most recently from losing my best friend.  But losing Evelyn? I don’t think my heart would ever recover from that.”

Everything He Couldn’t is the second book in the Newberry Springs series. This was a new-to-me author, but I didn’t have any trouble reading it by itself. However, after reading it I certainly want to go back and read the first book, Everything to Lose.

“…I need him to help me learn to swim through the darkness and search for the moon when it feels like I won’t ever find it.”

Firefighter Walker Gibson lost his best friend, John Schmitt, in a fire.  His guilt for surviving the fire has kept him away from Evelyn, John’s girlfriend who happens to be pregnant with John’s baby.  After months of avoiding her, their friends convince him to finally talk to her.  When he discovers John’s parents are fighting for custody of Kaydence (Evelyn and John’s baby), Walker proposes they get married and present themselves as a happy married couple.  Can this be Walker’s chance to win Evelyn’s heart?

Evelyn Sumner felt guilty because the last time she saw John, she gave him an ultimatum to either step up for the baby or leave them alone.  Being a single mom and a business owner kept her busy, but she was managing fine by herself.  Until she receives the court documents for custody of her daughter.  She will do anything to protect Kaydence, even marry Walker.  Can she accept Walker’s help and trust him to be there for her?

I loved watching Walker and Evelyn’s relationship grow.  Evelyn had been hurt in the past and was scared to believe Walker would be there for her and her daughter.  She found it hard to believe he wanted to be there for her.  Walker was such a great guy, and I am so glad he finally got a chance with Evelyn.  I loved how he wanted to keep John’s memory alive for Kaydence.  He was so sweet, and my heart melted with his owl sounds for Kaydence.

This beautiful small-town romance was a heartbreaker, and I would give it ten stars if I could. The characters were lovable and real-life-like.  The book was paced perfectly, and it transitioned smoothly.  After reading this book, I cannot wait to read more of the author's books in the future.   The next book looks to be just as amazing as this one was.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Meet Harlow James

Steamy Romance Author

Harlow James is a pen name I use to protect my identity as a high school teacher. Keeping those two roles in my life separate is necessary, but also fun! It’s like a live two lives, and anonymity gives me the opportunity to be bold and take risks in my stories.

I stumbled upon romance novels in 2018 when I picked up Driven by Kristy Bromberg, and I was obsessed. I had just lost my grandmother too, so reading offered me an escape from reality and a chance to grieve on my own terms.

About a year later, I got an idea for my own book and started writing. I researched self-publishing and jumped in with both feet. I had no idea what I was doing!

But now I’ve built a business and hobby that I LOVE! I have an outlet that’s just for me. When I write, I’m not a mom, a wife, or a teacher…I’m a woman who gets to tell stories that no one else can.

My books are the perfect blend of heartwarming moments, full-bellied laughs, and PLENTY of steam to melt your Kindles ðŸ˜‰And there are always elements of me sprinkled in to every character and story that I write.

When I’m not writing you can find me reading or spending time in my kitchen. I love to cook and feed my family and friends. Otherwise, you can find me watching comedy specials with my husband, camping with our kids, or taking naps. I live for naps ðŸ˜‰

Release Blitz

Release Date: July 6, 2023

Genre: Contemporary Romance Novella
Trope: Grumpy/sunshine, HEA, forced proximity, small-town, beach romance

Synopsis

He’s a hometown classic. She’s a Hollywood has-been. Can he convince her that holiday magic still exists?

My agent tells me this is my last chance. I need to sparkle in this cheesy made-for-TV holiday movie or my career is over.

P.S. I HATE the holidays.

So spending half the summer sweltering in kitschy Candy Cane Key, Florida, filming faux Christmas cheer in the wake of my messy divorce sounds like pure agony.

Turns out, I’m one-hundred percent right about this job—everything that can go wrong does. From missing costumes to wildlife disasters (hello—gator on the set!), it looks like this movie might never make it into the can.

And the plot twist: one devastatingly handsome fishing charter captain, Maddox Banks. He’s the polar opposite of my ex—kind, gorgeous, and so full of Christmas cheer the man practically jingles every time he moves.

Will one night with him have me rethinking my grinchy ways? Because everyone knows Happily Ever Afters only happen in the movies.

Excerpt

“Hey.” Maddox stands, squaring his shoulders, and I jog down to him. He wraps his arms around my waist, pulling me into his body and pressing his lips to mine.

I kiss him, soft and slow on the lips, breathing in his scent of spicy cologne and tropical sunscreen.

Not caring about who does or doesn’t see any longer.

“Hey.”

He trails his hand over my back, sending a delicious shiver racing down my spine. Heat unfurls low in my belly. I want every inch of this spectacular man.

“Come on, I want to take you somewhere special.” He gestures at the golf cart, and I get in, butterflies zooming around in my stomach.

The golf cart putters to life and we zoom through town, the wind warm on my face. The sky’s a light gray, dusk setting in, rainclouds blocking the sinking sun. We pass through town and head out toward the beach, but make a right turn before we hit the road we usually take. Maddox slows as we bump down a windy dirt path, the water on our right.

Finally, we come to the end of the wooded trail, a barn-looking structure at the dead end, a dock and the water nearby.

“What is this place?” I lower my voice because it feels like I should. The waves lap against the dock and it’s quiet, peaceful.

“My family’s boathouse. My grandpa built it, and I’ve been working on restoring it. C’mon.”

Maddox grabs my hand, leading me down the sandy path, unbolting and sliding back a large wooden beam. He hauls the door open, and we duck into the dimly lit space, the last rays of light slanting through the high, dusty windows.

“Maddox,” I whisper, my voice soft in the cavernous space as I spin in circles, taking it all in. Several boats seem to float high in the air, raised up on hydraulic lifts. An old wooden canoe’s strapped to the wall, a set of oars tethered next to it. Salt and turpentine mix in the air, tingling my nose.

“I spend my free time here, working on the boats. Come with me—I’ll show you.” He guides me toward the back of the boathouse, to his current work in progress. “This was my dad’s first boat. It needs a lot of work, but I’m getting there.” He runs his hand along the shiny metal rail running the length of the vessel.

“It looks great.” Granted, I don’t know much about boats.

“To your trained eye, right?” Maddox winks, teasing me. “Come here.”

He pulls me up against his broad chest and my heart pounds, hammering in my chest, as he drops his lips to mine. I breathe him in—his scent, all of his goodness—the waves crashing in the distance.

His hands roam over my body, moving from my hips to my rear, and heat pools in my panties as he inches my skirt up my thighs. Rubbing circles over the satin, he eases the fabric down my legs. He bends down, shoving the black scrap of satin into his pocket, then scoops me into his arms and carries me over to the nearest boat.

Lifting me, he gently sets me down on the boat, then climbs up to join me. Wordlessly, he pats the white leather bench seat and I sit. He rests his hand on my shoulder, pushing me back, and I lie down. With one hand, he picks up my skirt and spreads my thighs, dipping down between my legs. He kisses me, licking and swirling around my clit, and my body tenses and arches, craving more contact. Maddox hums against my skin, sending shockwaves of pleasure rolling through me. I knead his strong shoulder muscles, closing my eyes and enjoying the sensations happening between my thighs.

With a flattened palm, Maddox rubs his hand over my stomach, chill bumps rising on my heated skin. My nipples pebble and I sit up, pulling my shirt over my head and tossing it to the floor, followed by my bra.

Maddox grins at me. “Not wasting any time tonight, huh?”

The first beam of moonlight shines through the window, catching the twinkle in his eye.

“I don’t want to waste any time with you,” I breathe, unbuttoning his shirt and smoothing my hand over his strong, defined pecs. Pressing kisses on his smooth skin, I drop my hands lower still, unbuttoning his shorts. He kicks them off, then chucks his shirt to the floor on top of mine before lowering his boxer briefs.

Now we’re both naked, save for my skirt pooling around me. He shoves it to the side, not bothering to take it off, claiming my mouth in a hot, fiery kiss. Every nerve in my body’s alight for him and I’m hot all over, all my muscles tensing. He slips two fingers inside me, then three, and I lift my hips to meet him.

“I want you,” I murmur into his open mouth and I can feel the corners of his lips tip up into a smile.

“I want you too.” He breaks away, pulling out a condom and rolling it down his hard length before straddling me again.

Locking his eyes on mine, Maddox eases into me, my breath hitching in my throat. He fills me up and now we’re joined, every inch of our bodies touching. I reach up, running my fingers over his strong, square jaw.

I’ve never felt this close—this connected—to anyone in my entire life.

I shift my hips, and he begins to move inside me. We rock together, the boat swaying slightly in the air with each thrust. All my muscles tense, squeezing around him, and now we’re both rocketing toward our release.

“Ivy…” he groans, moving faster. “Come for me, baby.”

His raspy voice, thick with desire, sends me spiraling out of control, shattering beneath him. He follows right behind me, falling over the edge, hot and sweaty and spent.

After a few seconds, he rolls me onto his chest, stroking my hair as the waves lap nearby, a soothing lullaby.

We lay there, quiet and still, for a long time, my head rising and falling with Maddox’s breathing.

“Ivy? You awake?” Maddox’s deep voice vibrates his chest.

“Mm-hmm,” I murmur, sleepy and peaceful.

“I love you. And I know it’s fast and probably seems sudden. But I want you to know.”

I inhale, a sharp, quick breath.

I was not expecting that.

I want to say the words back, but can’t seem to make any sound, a giant lump stuck in my throat.

Instead, I thread my fingers through his, bringing his knuckles to my lips and pressing a soft kiss on his rough skin.

We lay like that, our legs entwined, Maddox’s strong arms wrapped around me for a long, long time, until we’re both too hot to stay here any longer.

When we stand, it feels like the moment’s fleeting and shattered, and a heavy ache settles in my chest.

Iced, an all-new single dad, forced-proximity, sports romance from USA Today bestselling author Bella Matthews is available now!

I never wanted to be a nanny.

That wasn’t part of my carefully crafted, five-year plan. The one I formulated after getting a second chance at life. Neither was losing my heart to the beautiful baby boy I’m taking care of. Even if I saw that coming the moment I laid eyes on him.

Falling in love with his father . . . now that, I didn’t see coming.

But I dare anyone to spend time getting to know the real Jace Kingston . . .

The man behind the hockey jersey, grumpy attitude, and panty-meltingly gorgeous face.

The one who sweetly sings his son to sleep . . . who holds him with such care.

The same man who knows exactly how to light every inch of my body on fire.

The one I can’t resist.

It was supposed to be one year of my life.

I’d pay off my student loans.

He’d get through his first season of pro hockey.

Then I’d help him find my replacement.

If only it was that easy.

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

My review:

“…nothing more important in life than love.  Being loved and loving someone, giving them your heart, it was the ultimate form of trust…when you find the one, trust your heart, hold on tight and don’t let go…”

Newly drafted NHL player, Jace Kingston was trying to move away and escape his overbearing siblings when he got drafted.  All those plans were ruined when his older brother drafted him for his family’s hockey team, the Philadelphia Revolutions.  Thinking his only problem now will be with his teammates thinking he was drafted due to his name; he was shocked to discover he was a father to a baby with an unknown mother.  Finding a nanny before the season started, became his number-one priority.

Finding a teaching job in her hometown after graduating was harder than India thought.  Being a nanny was not what she wanted but the job offer was too good for her to pass up.  She only needs to commit to one year and she could pay her student loans off.  Falling for her boss was not in the plans.

Iced is the third book in the Defiant Kings series but I recommend reading the series in order.  I was so excited to read Jace’s story; it is now my favorite in the series.  Ms. Matthews's books keep getting better and I have come to absolutely adore the Kingston family.  I love their family dynamics and all their witty banter.  This was another delightful story that will touch your heart and I highly recommend it.  I cannot wait for the next book.

Second Chances Series by Jacqueline Francis

Title: Second Chances Series
Author: Jacqueline Francis

Scott Carter is a bully. Scott Carter is a racist. Scott Carter is the most arrogant douche I have ever met. This man-whore charms the pants off all the girls, but not me - the Latina from the wrong side of town - I see none of that charm. I get the worst of him. He has made my life a living hell, tormenting me for years with no reprieve.

Just when I’m at breaking point, Scott Carter steps in and makes everything ten times worse. My whole life is turned upside down in an instant. And now, after he’s messed up everything, that’s when he decides that maybe we should try to be friends. He wants to reconcile and put the past behind us.

Ugh! No! He can go to hell. I want nothing from Scott Carter…but it’s starting to look like he wants something from me.

If you're looking for haters-to-lovers romance with a sexy, cocky hero and a sassy, quick-witted heroine, this one is just for you. #slowburn #highschooldrama

Dylan De Lorenzo is grade-A boyfriend material. Dylan De Lorenzo is the nicest guy wrapped up in the sexiest package of lean-cut biceps and rock-hard abs. Dylan De Lorenzo is exactly the type of guy who should stay away from me.

See, I'm the "bad girl", the drunk, the floozy, trouble with a capital T. Guys can't seem to resist my curves, and he may tell you differently, but he's not immune to me either. He wants me and he knows he shouldn't because I am the worst thing that could happen to a guy like him.

But Dylan De Lorenzo had me fooled. This guy flipped the script on me. He has a temper and a secret...and an ex-girlfriend. These were things I was unaware of when I blindly stumbled into this abyss of love and lust and passion.
Looking back at it now, maybe he was the worst thing that could have happened to me.

Warning: This book contains triggers that may affect certain readers such as suicide (before the book begins) and substance abuse. It may also affect readers who were victims of abuse and/ or violence. It contains strong language and sexual content and is not recommended for readers under 18 years of age or sensitive readers.

Other warnings: This book is basically one big flashback (for those of you who hate that kind of thing) and ends on cliffhanger. It contains (a lot of) crass sexual humor and if you are lactose intolerant, proceed with caution. There is also a moderate amount of cheese.

Isabella Diaz is a cheat. Isabella Diaz turned out to be the treacherous snake I was warned about. Isabella Diaz ripped my heart out and wrecked my whole world. It took a while, but I somehow pushed past the pain she caused. I picked up the pieces, wrote her off as a bad decision, and moved on. So, imagine my surprise when I find myself at her mercy again, when the mere sound of her voice takes center stage and overshadows everything else in my life.

See, Isabella Diaz played me for a fool, but when the dusty cloud of deception finally settles, I see her for who she really is. The woman I love. The woman I hate. The woman I shouldn’t want…but I do.

Warning: This book contains triggers that may affect certain readers, such as mental illness and infertility. It may also affect readers who were victims of abuse and/ or violence. It contains strong language and sexual content and is not recommended for readers under 18 years of age or sensitive readers.

Other warnings: This book contains many flashbacks (for those of you who hate that kind of thing), so please pay attention to the dates. Just like the first one, it still contains (a lot of) crass sexual humor and too much cheese. Also, special warning for what happens in chapter 2/ 3. Don't hate me.

Scott and Catalina - part 2 ❤❤❤ - This is not a standalone and must be read with book 1 of this series

Catalina Diaz was my dream come true. Catalina Diaz was my future. Catalina Diaz promised me forever, and I was foolish enough to believe her. She lied. Forever, as it turns out, was just an infinite amount of happiness condensed into a very finite amount of time.

“I’ll be back in a year,” she told me before she boarded a plane, but that wasn’t true either. On the day she left, we didn’t realize that our paths were going to lead in two separate directions. The distance grew between us, and what we had slowly dissipated into something we couldn’t salvage. We both moved on, she found love again, and I accepted she was lost to me forever.

Well, I thought I accepted it…until I see her again.

Karma has always enjoyed messing with me, and this time is no exception. Her sister is getting married to my best friend and what better circumstance to run into my ex-fiancé again than at a wedding? Just one interaction and Catalina Diaz turns my whole life upside down. See, I still want her, but she’s happy with someone else. It’s painstakingly gruesome.

I keep telling myself that I just have to get through two weeks and then she’ll hop on a plane, and we can go our separate ways again. Just two weeks and then I can put all the memories of Catalina Diaz out of my mind for good. Easy, right? An infinite amount of torture condensed into a very finite amount of time. I’m sure I can do it.

Trigger warning: Contains cheating!

Number cruncher by day, raging romance novelist by night; Jacqueline’s creative inspiration stems from romance and all its literary and rom-com depictions. Her slow-burn novels incorporate feisty females, witty heroes, and are always laced with a good dose of humor. Matters of the heart are what fascinates her, because ultimately, what makes a life out of - what would ordinarily be a typical existence - is Love
