The Wildcat
(Playing to Win, #2)
by Bella Matthews
is now available
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
Blurb:
What do you get when you mix a devastatingly handsome hockey player who doesn’t do casual with a blonde bombshell cheerleader who doesn’t do serious?
I was supposed to be taking the summer off from dating. . . and flirting. . . and men in general. A cleanse. It sounded great in theory. But theory went out the window when my own personal kryptonite sat on the barstool next to mine.
Six feet, five inches of stacked muscle and chiseled features, he exuded a cocky confidence that was hard to miss and even harder to resist. This man was delectable. Like a decadent piece of chocolate cake, tempting me to indulge.
And that was before I knew how he tasted.
The rules were simple:
One night.
No names.
No strings.
Until my handsome stranger turned out to be the hot-as-sin star forward for the Philadelphia Revolution hockey team. A single dad with two adorable kids who tug at my heart strings, and a family almost as obnoxious as my own.
But Cross Wilder isn’t looking for a hookup.
And I’m not looking for a fairytale.
The question is. . . do I have a choice?
My review:
“She asked me not to let go even when she runs. I guess
she hasn’t realized I’m not going anywhere. Unless it’s to chase her.”
The Wildcat is the second book in the Playing to Win series
which is about the 2nd generation of the Kingston family (Defiant Kings series)
and the Sinclair Family (Kings of Kroydon Hills). It’s not necessary to read
the previous series but if you like to have all the background information then
reading them in order is best.
This is Cross Wilder and Everly Sinclair (oldest daughter of
Declan and Annabelle Sinclair from Always Earned, Never Give) story, which was
full of steam. Everly is a cheerleader
who doesn’t want a relationship and Cross is a single dad of two and a hockey
player who knows what he wants. I loved
watching this hockey player fall for the football star’s daughter.
“Sorry. I’ve been
on a bit of a cleanse, And you…”
“Well, you’re like a big old, tempting piece of chocolate
cake.”
I loved the first-generation Kingston and Sinclair family’s
world and was unsure if the second generation could meet such lofty standards.
But I was worried for nothing because this series started off with a bag and
this book kept it going. The book was
outstanding, and I loved every minute of it. The witty banter, hilarious text
chains, and large family drama were everything I expected from a Bella Matthews
book. This age-gap, single-dad romance
hooked me on the first page and kept me reading until the very last word. I cannot wait for the next book in the
series!
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
