My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
My review:

Wow! The suspense had me from the beginning.  This is the second book in the clean suspenseful Christian romance series Guardians Unleased. Actually, it is the third book since the series starts with Rising Danger (Book 0) followed by Hidden Danger (Book 1).  I have really enjoyed each book of the all-female highly trained team known as the Phoenix K-9 Security and Detection (PK-9). The women are confident, courageous, and unfailing in their mission to protect. Each book can be read as a stand-alone, but I think reading Rising Danger first gives the reader a better understanding of the women and their dog's strengths.  The numbering is confusing but so worth starting from the beginning!  This is Amalia Perez and Michael Barrett’s story.
Amalia and Michael grew up as best friends, but Amalia was then Sophia.  Michael, an investigative journalist, has searched for Sophia for years.  Until he discovers she is one of the agents protecting him from assassins.  He is puzzled by the woman she has become and her loss of faith in God.
I loved how Michael’s faith in God was strong even when he was on the run.  He never gave up on Amalia and continued to chip at the wall she had built around herself.  Amalia had stopped believing in God but Michael’s reappearance in her life made her question her faith in God and her life choices.
The book was fast-paced, full of twists, and intense action.  It was well written, easy to read, and the wonderful characters had many layers.  I loved the book and cannot wait for the next book.  These women and their K-9s have found a way into my heart and I can’t get enough of them.  I highly recommend this book.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Texas Christmas Revenge: An Uplifting Romantic Suspense by Connie Queen

Texas Christmas Revenge: An Uplifting Romantic Suspense Kindle Edition by Connie Queen

Published:October 26, 2021 by Love Inspired Suspense

An abandoned little boy is the only clue
to a killer's dangerous holiday plot…

Certain a desperate 911 caller is her presumed-dead sister, emergency dispatcher Brandi Callahan follows the cryptic message to a terrified toddler…and an armed assailant. Now Brandi will do anything to protect the boy—even if it means asking her ex-fiancé, Texas Ranger Rhett Kincaid, for help. But can Brandi and Rhett stop this killer before he exacts his terrible Christmas vengeance?

From Love Inspired Suspense: Courage. Danger. Faith.

My review:

This was a new-to-me author, and I am so glad I had the chance to read it. It was well written, had likable characters, and the pacing was perfect. I loved the storyline and how the author slowly revealed the details of the past. The book started off with a lot of action and it kept on going until the end.

Dispatcher Brandi Callahan’s life took a dramatic turn the funds her father managed for the town went missing, her father was found dead, and Sadie, her sister, disappears. The people of Mulberry Gap were quick to blame her father and shun their family. Brandi knew her father was innocent, and her sister was still alive but no one else believed her. Even Rhett, the man she was engaged to, did not believe it. A mysterious call sends her to her deserted family’s farm where she discovers a terrified toddler and almost is killed.

Texas Ranger Rhett Kincaid knew Brandi was in real trouble when she appears on his doorstep. She had broken their engagement and managed to avoid him for two years. He never stopped caring for her and when her life is endangered, he will do all he can to protect her. The closer they get to the truth, the closer they realize that someone is also setting up Brandi. Can they find her sister in time?

This was an intense book with lots of intrigues, action, and an unexpected ending. I loved how the main characters were able to work together even though there was tension from their past. I was cheering them on the entire book and was so glad to see them succeed.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

First Kiss at Christmas by Lee Tobin McClain

First Kiss at Christmas JustRead Blog Tour Welcome to the Blog Tour for First Kiss at Christmas by Lee Tobin McClain, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

ABOUT THE BOOK

first kiss at christmasTitle: First Kiss at Christmas Series: The Off Season #5 Author: Lee Tobin McClain Publisher: HQN Release Date: October 26, 2021 Genre: Clean Contemporary Romance

At 25 years old, preschool teacher Kayla Harris is embarrassed to admit she's never been kissed. When Tony DiNunzio and his grieving nephew show up in her classroom, she can't help being drawn to both of them. If only her insecurities-and his guilt over his sister's death-would stop standing in their way. As Christmas approaches, can these three come together to form a family... not just for the holidays, but forever?

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
My review:

First Kiss at Christmas was the 5th book in The Off-Season series by Lee Tobin McClain. I have not read any of the other books in the series, but I do not think it affected the story by reading it as a standalone. It was a small-town festive romance that was a delight to read. A perfect book to read on a chilly weekend with some hot chocolate. The pacing was perfect, and the characters were charming. I loved meeting all the friendly people living in Pleasant Shores and how the story included their viewpoint in some instances. It added depth to the story, and we got to see a potential romance develop between the side characters. Kayla was so sweet but lacked the confidence to stand up for herself. It was great to finally see her stand up for herself and not give in easily to Tony. Tony was a great guy and his concern for his adorable nephew was sincere. It was easy to empathize with him and the challenges he was facing as he learned about children. I really enjoyed this book and would like to read the previous books in the series.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Lost and Found Faith

Lost and Found Faith JustRead Blog + Review Tour

Welcome to the Blog + Review Tour for Lost and Found Faith by Laurel Blount, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Lost and Found Faith
Title: Lost and Found Faith
Author: Laurel Blount
Publisher: Love Inspired
Release Date: August 24, 2021
Genre: Christian, Contemporary Romance

A terrible tragedy nearly broke him. Can love put him back together again?

Widowed history teacher Neil Hamilton has lost his way—at work, with people and even with his faith. But Neil's shut-down existence is disrupted when a small toddler and his would-be foster mother, vibrantly pretty Maggie Byrne, come crashing into Neil's yard and his life. Can this absentminded teacher find himself again…and take a chance on love, too?

From Love Inspired: Uplifting stories of faith, forgiveness and hope.

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
My review:
Lost and Found Faith is a beautiful and heart-warming story of having faith and finding it again. It was a short book, but the author was able to develop the characters and storyline without it feeling rushed. It was beautifully written and inspiring.
“God’s love for us lights up our lives. Sometimes we forget about Him…but that doesn’t change God. He still loves us the same.”

Neil Hamilton was a history teacher who moved to Cedar Ridge, Georgia after his wife was killed in a car accident. He was devastated by her death and upset with God for allowing it to happen. He escaped the painful memories by working all the time except he was just going through the motions of teaching. He no longer tried to connect or engage with his classes. Can Maggie’s faith and enthusiasm for life help him find his faith again?

Maggie Byrne had a rough childhood and ended up in Cedar Ridge when she was placed with Ruby as a twelve-year-old foster child. Maggie is trying to adopt Oliver, but she is having a hard time connecting with him. He takes to Neil right away which pains Maggie, because if she fails to connect with Oliver soon, he will have to go to a group home.

This was truly a wonderful story of hope and faith. Maggie had such a kind-hearted spirit. She went to so much effort to help others and was such a positive influence on the kids. She was truly upset by Oliver’s resistance to her, but she kept on trying. Neil found himself wanting to help Maggie and experiencing emotions he hadn’t felt in years. He feared letting people close again but Maggie had a way of getting through to people. I loved watching Oliver and Maggie bonding and could not keep from smiling when he finally called her Mama. I would highly recommend this book and look forward to future books from the small town of Cedar Ridge.
I received an ARC and am willingly leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

My review:

Anchor My Heart is a heart-warming story that profoundly moves you.  It was the first book I read by this author, but it will not be the last.  It was beautifully written, and the characters were genuine and faced real life challenges.  It was a story of second chances, grief, having faith, and living life after losing a loved one.  The author handles the difficult issue of grief and the struggles of those left behind wonderfully.  The character’s emotions were deep and tugged at my heart.  I highly recommend this book.  It is a beautiful clean faith driven romance of second chances.

Because lives now depend entirely on them…

Can they evade him in a lethal game of cat and mouse and protect the cities from devastating destruction before the clock runs out?

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
My review:
Wow! The suspense was so intense that it had me on the edge of my chair. This was a clean second chance Christian romance full of danger, intrigue, and action. I loved how the heroine was part of an all-female team known as the Phoenix K-9 Security and Detection (PK-9). The women were confident, courageous, and unfailing in their mission to find the bomber.
Bristol Bachmann and her K-9 Toby were new to the PK-9 team, but the other women had her back. She was surprised and amazed at how supportive they were as they searched for the bomber. Discovering her ex-boyfriend Remington “Rem” Jones was the dams’ supervisor worried her since he had been immature and unpredictable when she knew him six years ago. Rem thought he would never see Bristol again, but he was hoping she would see he had changed for the better. He knew his actions and the choices he made earlier in life would always haunt him.
I really liked Rem’s sincerity and good humor from the beginning. He owned his faults and worked to change himself for the better after finding God. Bristol was unforgiving and not willing to risk her heart getting broken again by Rem. I must admit to getting a little upset by the middle of the book with her unforgiving and doubtfulness. I was glad to see her attitude change at the end. She finally opened her heart and found peace within herself. I enjoyed watching her character grow throughout the book. This was a new author for me, and I really enjoyed reading this book. I hope to see the women from the PK-9 team in future books.

Hooked On You JustRead Blog Tour

Welcome to the Blog Tour for Hooked On You by Kathleen Fuller, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

ABOUT THE BOOK

Hooked On You

Title: Hooked On You
Series: Maple Falls Romance #1
Author: Kathleen Fuller
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
Release Date: May 11, 2021
Genre: Contemporary Romance (clean/sweet)

She never wanted to come back. He never wants to leave. The town of Maple Falls has plans for them both.

Riley McAllister is living the dream in New York City . . . if the dream means being a struggling mixed-media artist, part-time food delivery driver, and having a carefully curated social media to hide all of the above. She refuses to admit defeat and move back to small-town Maple Falls, but when her grandmother breaks her leg sliding into third base during a softball game (she was safe, by the way), Riley reluctantly agrees to go home and help the woman who raised her—while secretly hoping she can convince Mimi to sell her house and yarn shop and move in with a good friend. Then Riley can return to her new life in NYC, on her own and for good.

But Mimi has her own plans, which include setting Riley up with local baseball star Hayden Price, who returned to Maple Falls after an injury ended his major league career. Now he works at his father’s hardware store, coaches the church softball team, and worries about the declining town. It’s not the life he dreamed of having.

With a little meddling and a lot of kindness from the town, Hayden and Riley find themselves unexpectedly falling for each other as they discover the true meaning of home

Welcome to Maple Falls, where everyone knows your name and your business.

My rating: 4 out of 5 stars
My review:

Hooked on You is the first book in the new Maple Falls series, and it was a great start for the series.  It was a new-to-me author and I found it to be a fun small-town clean romance.   The pacing was perfect, and the storyline was developed.  The characters were wonderful especially the Bosom Buddies “BB.”  The BB were a group of elderly women who had been friends forever and who liked to meddle a little in others’ lives.

Riley McAllister’s mother had never been reliable and finally, when Riley was twelve years old, she moved in with her grandmother Mimi.  During high school Riley tried to blend in and not get noticed because she did not want to answer questions about her earlier life.  She tended to be a loner but still noticed Hayden in high school.  She left Maple Falls for New York to pursue her career as an artist.  She had not returned to Maple Falls until the day her Mimi calls and asks Riley to come home and help her since she broke her leg.

Hayden Price worked his entire life to make it to pro-baseball league but ends up injuring his pitching arm during his first league game.  He returns to Maple Falls to help with the family’s store.  He hopes to rejuvenate the town to draw more people to the stores on Main Street.  Hayden feels somewhat responsible for Mimi breaking her leg.  He was glad to pick Riley up from the airport because he had always noticed her in high school but was too busy with baseball to ever do anything about it.

Riley and Hayden both feel the chemistry between them but staying in Maple Falls is not Riley’s plan.  She plans on staying long enough to help her grandmother and then return to New York.  It was great to see Riley open up and let Hayden in because she tended to keep everyone at a distance.

This was a sweet and clean romance with some humor and wonderful friendships.  I loved meeting the other characters and look forward to seeing them in future books.

I received an ARC and am willingly leaving a review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.
