My review:

The Forever Farmhouse is the first book in the new Hometown Brothers series which is based on three foster boys’ homecoming to Teaberry Island.  Betty and Wayne Raines were unable to have children of their own, so they fostered troubled teenage boys at their farmhouse on the shoreline of Teaberry Island.  They provided Ryan, Cody, and Luis with a place to heal and find themselves.  This was Mellie and Ryan’s homecoming story.

Years prior Ryan Hasting had panicked and left the island after he spent one night with will Mellie.  He never got over his love for Mellie so when he returns home to check on Betty all those feelings returned.  He found himself hoping for another chance but the truth about Mellie’s son changes everything. 

Mellie Anderson’s heart was broken after Ryan ran after their one night together.  When he returns to the island years later, she struggles with the decision she made years ago.  She knows Alfie, her brilliant son, needs Ryan’s guidance but to keep her secret she needs to avoid him.

Mellie was so a sweet character and she truly thought she was protecting her son by keeping the truth from Ryan.  She realizes her mistake and wants to tell him the truth but is afraid of losing him a second time.  Can they overcome their fears and anger for a second chance at love?

This is a charming small-town romance that will give you all the fell goods and leave you smiling.  It was beautifully written with an entertaining storyline.  The characters were genuine and likable.  I highly recommend this book and I cannot wait for Cody’s story which will be next.

My review:

Evan Stone had many regrets in life, but he is in a better place now.  He has overcome his alcohol addiction and is a police officer in the small town of Pleasant Shores where he feels like he has found a place to belong.  His best friend Josh was worried about a case he was working on, and he had Evan promise to watch over his sister, Cassie, and help if needed.  He also made Evan promise to never pursue her romantically because Josh knew his past and his struggles. Months after Josh was killed Cassie called asking for help.  Can he maintain his sobriety while dealing with the pressure of his son Oliver staying with him and his feelings for Cassie growing?

Cassie Thomas had survived cancer as a child, but her family still sheltered her.  After witnessing her brother Josh being murdered, she returns to live with her mother.  She longs to be independent and grow her business of making lookalike dolls for kids with serious illnesses and moving to Pleasant Shores was the first step for her. 

This was a beautiful story of regret, grief, and starting over again.  Evan regretted the years he lost being a father to Oliver, but he wants to repair their relationship and help Oliver, so he doesn’t follow the same path he did.  Cassie’s past had given her the strength and courage the pursue her goals.  It was amazing to see her flourish and grow in confidence.  This story will touch your heart and I highly recommend reading it.

My review:

First Kiss at Christmas was the 5th book in The Off-Season series by Lee Tobin McClain. I have not read any of the other books in the series, but I do not think it affected the story by reading it as a standalone. It was a small-town festive romance that was a delight to read. A perfect book to read on a chilly weekend with some hot chocolate. The pacing was perfect, and the characters were charming. I loved meeting all the friendly people living in Pleasant Shores and how the story included their viewpoint in some instances. It added depth to the story, and we got to see a potential romance develop between the side characters. Kayla was so sweet but lacked the confidence to stand up for herself. It was great to finally see her stand up for herself and not give in easily to Tony. Tony was a great guy and his concern for his adorable nephew was sincere. It was easy to empathize with him and the challenges he was facing as he learned about children. I really enjoyed this book and would like to read the previous books in the series.
