Hot to the Touch is the third and final book in the Hot in Chicago Rookies series. This has been such a great series and I hate to see the end of it. I was hooked from the beginning of this book. I love a good enemy to lovers’ books, especially one where they must learn to cohabitate. Not only must Cass and Sam share guardianship of the two young children, but they also must learn to get along.
Cass Ferguson disliked the immature and flirty Sam Killian the moment she meets him, but she must play nice since her sister is married to his brother. When her sister Annie, and her brother-in-law, Jake dies in a car accident, Cass thought she would have sole guardianship of her niece and nephew. She couldn’t understand why Annie and Jake would let Sam be one of the children’s guardians. She plans on fighting for full custody and returning to New York as soon as possible.
Sam’s not sure why his brother left him guardianship of his children, but he isn’t about to let Cass take them away. He realizes no one takes him seriously and thinks he is impetuous, but he has funneled his thill-seeking ways into a job as a firefighter, which he loves. Can he manage to be around the woman who turned him down six years ago while learning how to navigate all the new obstacles in his life?
This was a heartbreaking story, and it was sad that it took the deaths of their siblings for Cass and Sam to finally come together. Sam was a great guy, but everyone held his past against him and never recognized he had changed. Even his own parents didn’t give him credit for what he had made of his life. Cass felt like she was being pushed out of her sister’s life when Annie got married and her fear made her standoffish. I loved watching Cass and Sam find their way and realize they were wrong about each other.
I really enjoyed this series, and I was glad to see Abby and Jude again. I recommend the entire series and I look forward to future books by Ms. Meader.
