REASON TO BELIEVE by Rebecca Yarros

REASON TO BELIEVE by Rebecca Yarros Release Date: April 26th   AVAILABLE NOW!! Amazon: https://amzn.to/36CZmVn Nook: https://geni.us/RTBBN Apple: https://geni.us/RTBApple Kobo: https://geni.us/RTBKobo     Add to Goodreads: https://geni.us/RTBGoodreads Blurb: “I’ll take them!” That’s what I tell the social worker when my pre-k student and his baby brother need an emergency foster placement. I’ll do anything to keep the brothers from being split up. But my apartment’s flooded and there’s only one house I can take them to on such short notice…his. Knox Daniels, my older brother’s best friend, offers his new place without hesitation. He’s not moving back to our tiny town until next month—that’s when all our hotshot firefighters are returning for their one and only chance to rebuild our fathers’ fallen, iconic crew. It doesn’t matter that I’ve been silently in love with Knox since we were kids. It can’t matter that we pretend that reckless prom night kiss never happened. It won’t matter that my feelings for him could destroy his lifelong friendship with my brother and threaten the certification of their hotshot crew. Because I’ll be out of his house long before he gets back. Except Knox just walked in…a month early. And the icing on this awkward cake? He’s gorgeous as always and I’m covered in baby puke. He takes one look at the boys and tells me we can make this work— We can temporarily fake a relationship to keep them from being separated by the system. Suddenly, everything matters.

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
My review:

Reason to Believe is the first book in the Legacy series and it really started the series off with a bang! It was a beautiful heartbreaking story of grief, hope, new starts, and family. Legacy is a small-town in Colorado where everyone knew each other and their sad past. A devasting fire had destroyed the town years ago and killed all but one man on the hotshot team. The town had slowly rebuilt over the years, but everyone had been affected by the death of the team. The team’s children and family members had moved away from Legacy but are now returning and are now trying to reform the Legacy Hotshot team and become certified before the next fire season.

“She was mine in a way no one else was – to fluster, aggravate, protect, and even adore…but never to touch.”

Bad boy Knox Daniels had fallen for Harper, his best friend’s younger sister, when they were teenagers. Ryker, his best friend, saw his interest in Harper but made Knox promise to never go after her. As much as it hurt him, Knox kept that promise and stayed away from Harper for years. However, when Harper needs help with two orphaned siblings, Knox doesn’t hesitate to help even going as far as to marry her with the hope of keeping her.
“Now you have been kissed…”
“…Is it always like that?”
“…Like what?”
“… As necessary as air? Like you’ll die if you stop? Like the ache will burn you alive?”
Harper Anders had loved Alex since they were kids but knew she didn’t have a chance since he only thought of her as his best friend’s little sister. She was desperate when a Legacy Widow died in an accident and left her two sons alone at Harper’s preschool. Harper couldn’t let the two boys be sent to another town and get separated so she said she would take them. Desperate to keep the boys and with nowhere to stay she asks Knox to use his house since he was not supposed to be back for another month. Only Knox returns home early and at the worst possible time. Harper and Knox would do anything needed to keep the boys together and safe. Will their marriage survive once things change?
“Dad always said that you don’t marry the one you can live with, you marry the one you can’t live without.”
I absolutely adored this book! This author is one of my favorites and this book did not disappoint. I loved watching Knox and Harper as their relationship changed. Knox spent years trying to keep his promise to Ryker, but he was miserable the entire time. The tension between the two was intense and seeing them finally get their chance together was wonderful. I loved this book and highly recommend it. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
