Kailey Henderson dealt in code.

Well, code, social anxiety, and online gaming.

What she didn’t deal in was sexy hockey players.

And she certainly didn’t deal in sexy hockey players like Connor Smith. He was brass. He was loud. He was funny and charming and…ballsy.

Kailey was about the furthest thing from ballsy someone could find.

Connor didn’t seem to care. From the moment she’d showed up at the rink to help her friend set up a player development program for the Baltimore Breakers, he had led a campaign to win her heart.

The thing was, Kailey didn’t actually want her heart to be won, and the more Connor campaigned, the more she resisted. And…the more she resisted and argued and pushed back, the more she found out that she actually could be ballsy.

And the worst thing about that?

It made Connor campaign even harder.

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars

My review:

Ballsy is the fourth book in the Breakers Hockey series by Elise Faber.  I loved Smitty’s character in the earlier books and I was so excited to see his book.  I was extremely surprised by how much better it was than I thought it would be!  I really enjoyed the witty banter between the teammates and the continuing humor of the plant growing contest.

Kailey had problems “peopling” due to her anxiety causing her to freeze up.  She avoided people as much as she could and stuck with her coding and online games.  There she didn’t have to deal with anxiety because she was in her comfort zone.  She was afraid to open up and trust again after her last relationship.

“He’d found her.

One look, and he’d known.

Quiet where he was loud.

Smart when he wasn’t…

Certainly, she was oblivious that she was… his.

But he’d known.”

Connor Smith “Smitty” had always felt like he was big, goofy, and not enough.  He thought he was only good at hitting things and making people laugh.  He has watched his teammates find happiness with their “one” and he wanted to find what they had.  When he saw Kailey, he knew she was the one for him, but she wanted nothing to do with him.  Can he convince her otherwise?

Smitty was always the prankster and joking around with his teammates in the previous books, so seeing him vulnerable and being serious was endearing.  His experiences as a child gave him patience and understanding of Kailey and her anxiety.  I loved how he was so considerate and focused on her and her needs.  Kailey had taken the job with the Breakers and moved away from the pressure of her family.  She wanted to improve and become better in social environments.  Watching them both grow and realize they were perfect for each other was heartening.  I have enjoyed every book in the series but this one was my favorite.  Maybe because I loved seeing deeper into Smitty’s character and what was behind his facade.  I would highly recommend this book if you like humor, hockey players, and romance.

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.
