Haven (The Defiant Kings Book 5)
Released: October 5, 2023
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
“Just sit here with me and talk. People will think we’re together. That’ll keep the guys away from you and the girls away from me. Win. Win.”
His white thermal shirt is stretching across an impossibly muscled chest and a blue and grey flannel covers that, with the buttons unbuttoned. He looks comfortable and warm and for some reason I kinda think I might actually trust him, so I sit.
Probably a dumb move. Definitely one I’m going to regret. But it’s the first time I’ve ever had a hot guy ask me to spend the night with him, so why not?
Yeah… this isn’t going to end well."
Haven is the football romance that you have been waiting for. Brandon Dixon and Ashlyn Kingston have a second chance at love that will have you on the edge of your seat in the epic finale of the Defiant Kings series by USA Today bestselling author Bella Matthews. Available on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited.
Blurb:
She’s a former Olympic figure skater whose world turned upside down. He’s a pro-football player who never let go of the past. What happens when these two finally have their second chance and a stalker threatens everything?
Brandon Dixon came into my life like a quiet storm. Powerful and intense. I was sure he was my fresh start. But it turned out life had other plans.
We’ve spent the past decade avoiding each other until we can’t anymore. And if I thought a younger Brandon was hard to resist, that boy doesn’t hold a candle to the man standing in front of me now. Bigger, broader, and more protective than ever, ignoring him is impossible.
The longer we fight our attraction, the higher and hotter the flame grows—until one night and one elevator change everything.
My review:
“…I think a piece of
me fell in love with you a lifetime ago, and I never let go of that piece. I
hid it for safekeeping because I think I hoped we’d find our way back to each
other one day.”
Haven is the fifth and final book in
the Defiant Kings series. Although the books can be read as standalones, once
you start reading one you will want to read them all! It was well-written and I
was captivated from the first page and couldn’t put it down. I loved all the humor, the family drama, and getting
to revisit with characters from the previous books.
This was the story of Ashlynn Kingston,
who was the last wife of John Kingston’s, journey of a heartbreaking second
chance at love. After seeing Ashlynn in
the background throughout the series, I was so excited to finally get a chance
to know her better. Aslynn and Brandon understood
each other, and they were the perfect couple.
Their characters had lots of layers and I loved watching them find their
way together.
I absolutely adore the Kingston family
and their “overly involved family members” and hilarious group chats. This was
the perfect book to end the series with and I loved getting an insight from all
the Kingstons in the end! I am so sad to
see this series end, but I cannot wait for the next generation of Kingstons in The
Fighting to Win series.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving
a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
