At First Meet (Montgomery Ink Legacy #2) by Carrie Ann Ryan

At First Meet (Montgomery Ink Legacy #2) by Carrie Ann Ryan

BLURB

NYT Bestselling Author Carrie Ann Ryan continues the Montgomery Ink Legacy series with an emotional, friends-to-lovers romance where second chances begin with a promise.

I fell in love with the wrong man and learned the hard way to ask for help.
I don’t plan on falling again and have no intention of trying.
But when I get invited to a high-powered CEO retreat, I know I can’t say no.
And I can’t go alone.

When my frenemy, Nick, invites himself as my escort, I should walk away.
But there’s no stopping the connection we’ve both ignored for far too long.

Only Nick’s past is far darker than he lets the world know, and the shell he encased himself in is stronger than my own. And when the pain from my past comes back with a force, I’m afraid that walking away will be the only choice—even if it breaks us both.

My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
My review:

At First Meet is the second book in the Montgomery Ink series. I have loved seeing all my favorite characters again and what has become of their children.  It has really been exciting to see the family grow and spread their warmth and generosity.  This is Lake Montgomery (daughter of Arden Brady and Liam Montgomery from Wrapped in Ink, the first book in the Montgomery Ink: Boulder series) and Nick Gatlin’s story.

Nick fell for Lake when he met her but the Montgomery family had welcomed him as a child into their family so he feared a relationship between them could ruin that.  He didn’t consider the temptations of being her plus one to her event when he volunteered to go with her.

Lake focuses on her work her last relationship ends, but her abusive ex will not leave her alone. Being invited to the top 40 under 40 retreat was an honor and she felt like she needed to go to represent women in business.  She needs a plus one for it if only for appearance's sake.  She was surprised when Nick suggested he would go with her but she didn’t have anyone else to take.

I loved watching Nick and Lake finally give in to the strong attraction between them.  The forced proximity element of their story gave them the push they needed.  They were lovable characters, and I am so glad they, at last, found their happy ever.  The ending of the story was a heartbreaker and definitely a surprise. I cannot wait for the next book in the series, which is May’s!

I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
