THE PROJECT by R.L. Mathewson

Release Date: May 20

From New York Time’s bestselling author of the Neighbor from Hell series comes a heartwarming romantic comedy about the only thing that matters when you’re about to lose everything that you’ve ever wanted.

The one person that you can’t live without.

She should probably mention that she had no idea what she was doing, but since that would probably result in her new boss, Devyn MacGregor, CEO of Carta Hotels and the incredibly handsome man that didn’t look like he knew how to smile, firing her, Andi Dawson decided that it would be in her best interest to keep that fact to herself. After years of doing a job that had slowly destroyed her will to live, she needed a change, something different, something that gave her a clue about what she was supposed to do with her life, but more importantly, she needed to figure out how she was supposed to keep a secret that could destroy the only thing that mattered to her.

Just. One. More. Time.

Devyn was so close to having everything that he’d ever wanted when everything suddenly went to hell. He should have seen this coming, should have stayed focused, and he really should stop thinking about the small woman that he should probably fire. He had four months to fix this and he had no idea how he was going to do it, but he knew that he was about to make the biggest mistake of his life.

My review:

WOW!!!
This was a new-to-me author, and I don’t know why it has taken me so long to come across her.  I was shocked by how well-written it was and how much I enjoyed it.  I absolutely loved the characters and their slow-burn relationship.  It was a workplace trope full of humor and intrigue.
Andi Dawson was a math genius but was bored working in accounting.  She wanted to do something different in life so applied to Carta Hotels and gets a job as an assistant to the CEO.  She is not sure what an assistant is supposed to do but she is determined to hide her math skills and stay away from accounting.  She hides it well until she comes across false documents for a company merge that will ruin Carta Hotels.
CEO of Carta Hotel, Devyn MacGregor worked hard to raise himself from the streets to the job of CEO.  He can’t seem to keep assistants, so he decides to give Andi a chance.  He knows she was hiding something but was astonished when she informs the board of the document mistakes.  His contract is up in a few months, and he needs to determine how the errors in the documents occurred to secure his job.  He’s amazed by Andi’s brilliance and hopes with her help they might save the company.
This was an amazing story, and I was hooked from the beginning.  All the twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat and from putting the book down.  The characters and the plot had many layers.  This is the perfect book if you like intrigue and workplace romance. I highly recommend it and look forward to future books from the author.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.
