USA TODAY Bestselling Author Claudia Burgoa pens a fun and sexy romantic comedy where playing pretend turns to playing for keeps…
We have to pretend that what we have is something like love…
I’m down on my luck.
Scratch that. This is the worst week of my life.
Enter the last person I want to deal with: Burke St. James.
He’s wealthy.
He’s a womanizer.
And a big liar.
And it turns out we need each other.
Burke needs a fiancée to seal the deal of a lifetime. I need help or my business is going belly-up. So, Burke very non-romantically asks me to marry him. Well, he asks me to be fake engaged to him, anyway.
I’ll attend a few dinners, pretend I’m in love, and meet the family.
In exchange, he’ll invest in my company and help me launch it off the ground.
All is easy, except his kisses feel more real than they should.
And the sex…damn, we’re not supposed to have sex.
It’s all for show…right?
Did I mention he’s a really good liar?
Pretending not to fall in love is more complicated than I thought.
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
My review:
“That kiss….
It gave me hope, warmth from her personal sunlight, and it touched the corners
of my heart that had never seen the light.”
Burke St.
James was captivated by Chloe when he met her at a wedding at Silverthorne Bay
Vineyard. He doesn’t believe in love and
thinks weddings are the prelude to divorce.
He thought he and Chloe had connected but after the wedding, she chose
his friend Maddox. He spent the next
year thinking of her and avoiding them.
After he realizes Maddox has disappeared after stealing from him and
Chloe, he sets out to help her. He needs
a fiancée to finish the purchase of a vineyard and he needs a fake fiancée to
seal the deal. He proposes she pretends
to be his fiancée for a couple of months, and he will help her with her catering
business.
“You don’t marry a nice guy. You marry a person who looks at you as if you’re the reason for his existence.”
Chloe
Lafferty was a romantic at heart. She
had seen her parents in their happy marriage, and she craved the same
relationship. Her parents had gotten
married at the Silverthorne Bay Vineyard, and she thought it was such a
romantic and magical place. She fell for
Maddox’s lies about Burke and trusted him more than she should have. She returns home to find he had sold the
house they lived in with all her possessions.
Her choices are limited but with Burke’s help, she can keep her business
running.
Something
Like Love is the second book in the Against All Odds: The St. James Family
series. I really like the fake relationship trope, so this was the perfect book
for me. It was well written, had a fun
storyline, and the pacing was perfect.
The main characters were charming and ideal for each other. I loved the amusing dialogue and all the
witty banter between the St. James siblings.
I really enjoyed this book and highly recommend it.
I received
an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
All thoughts and opinions are my own.
