Release Date: March 22
From USA TODAY BESTSELLING AUTHOR Claudia Burgoa comes this page-turner fake-relationship-office romance.
What happens when the guy who’s afraid of love finds himself in it?
Know what they say about never mixing business with pleasure? Yeah, no.
The one about never sleeping with your boss?
I ignored it too.
I blame Aslan Spearman, the boss.
He’s a wealthy playboy who doesn’t believe in happily ever after.
He’s demanding, a workaholic, and cynical.
He’d rather have a root canal than be in a romantic relationship.
Do you want to know a secret? I think he’s afraid of love.
So when he has to go to the Spearman family reunion in Hawaii with his girlfriend, he’s in big trouble.
That’s what happens when you lie to your family about your relationship status.
It wasn’t important—until now.
What does he do?
He comes to me, his VP of Operations and right hand for assistance.
After all, I’m a problem solver.
Except my personal life is complete chaos.
So we make a deal. I’ll be his girlfriend if he helps me solve my problems.
It’s a win-win situation, right?
I mean, how hard can it be?
It’s not like I plan to fall in love.
My rating: 5 out of 5 stars
My review:
Faking the Game is the first book in the Paradise Bay Billionaire Brothers series by Claudia Y. Burgoa. This author has quickly become one of my favorite contemporary authors. Her books are emotional, have loveable and genuine characters, are full of steamy romance, and have a lot of witty/snarky fun. This was Aslan and Keaton’s story, but characters from the other series do pop in.
Aslan is the oldest Spearman sibling and runs the family’s winery in Paradise Bay. He’s wealthy, a workaholic, and does not do relationships. Unfortunately, he cannot stand up to his mother, so he tells her he has a girlfriend. Now the family is having a reunion in Hawaii, and she expects him to bring his girlfriend. Keaton Nealy is the VP of Operations for Spearman LLC and Aslan’s feelings for her are complicated. When her home life becomes total chaos, Aslan wants to help her. So, they do a trad off and Keaton will pretend to be his girlfriend for a week. Only a week might not be enough once lines get crossed.
This book was a low angst, full of witty conversations, and fun family dynamics that made it a delightful book to read. Aslan and Keaton were the perfect couple, and I was cheering for them the entire book. I loved the fact that they had friendship at the beginning of their relationship, and it grew from there. I cannot wait for the next book, which will be Gatsby’s book. It sounds like it will be just as good as this one.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
