I would do anything for my best friend.
Well. Almost anything.
When she begs me to come on a weekend getaway so I can bond with her new boyfriend, I can’t say no—no matter how badly I want to. After all, who will keep an eye on the guy; he’s your stereotypical, professional football player (emphasis on PLAYER) and I don’t trust him with my friends heart.
Worse? He has the nerve to bring his single best friend Davis on the trip, too. Davis is too handsome, so funny and smart he can’t possibly be human. Grandma’s, babies and kittens all fall for his smile.
In fact, everyone adores but me **narrows eyes** What’s he hiding?
I refuse to fall for his act; at some point he’ll will drop the Good Guy act and show his true colors: he’s a player, too. He must be.
You know the saying: if he seems too good to be true, he probably is.
My rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars
My review:
The Player Hater is the first book in the Accidentally in
Love series by Sara Ney. This was a
new-to-me author, and the blurb and beautiful cover caught my attention, and I
couldn’t wait to read it.
Juliet was a middle school teacher and had been burnt in the
past by a professional athlete. She has
serious doubts about Mia’s, her best friend’s, new boyfriend Thad. She reluctantly agrees to take a weekend trip
to get to know Thad better. She thought
it would be to a warm beach area but ends up in a camper in an unknown location
in the woods.
Davis is a retired football player who is tired of all the
women who fall at his feet. He wants to
find a woman who likes him for himself and who has the same future goals. He is ready to settle down, have the white
picket fence, children, and pets.
This was low angst and amusing romance that was easy to
read. It was a short book and I felt
like the ending was abrupt. It ended
right as Juliet and Davis have their first official date. I would have loved to have seen more of their
relationship as it grew. The ending
leads us into the next book and gives us a little look into Davis’s sister
Penelope’s story.
I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Among her favorite vices, she includes: iced lattes, historical architecture and well-placed sarcasm. She lives colorfully, collects vintage books, art, loves flea markets, and fancies herself British.
