Only a Fling is the first book in the Kasper Ridge series. Archie Kasper (Ghost) has inherited Kasper Ridge resort in Colorado from Marvin, his eccentric great-uncle. He and his sister had limited funds but were trying to renovate it and get it running again. Ghost contacted some of his former Navy pilot friends for help with the project and a little treasure hunting. This is Will (Fake Tom) and Lucy’s story.
Lucy took over her grandfather’s (Papa) construction company when he retired and is hoping to win the bid for the Kasper Ridge resort. If she gets the contract the company will be financially stable, and they can rehire workers they had let go. She was excited to see the resort restored and have it bring in tourists that will help the town. The only drawback is working with Will, the arrogant but sexy project manager. After watching everyone leave Kasper Ridge for the bigger cities, Lucy knows that Will will also leave after the resort job is done. So, the only thing they can have is a summer fling before he leaves town as everyone else has.
Will had spent his life living in his father’s shadow and trying to make him proud. He followed his steps to become a Navy pilot and then returned home to work with his father. When Ghost calls and offers him the job as project manager, Will sees this as an opportunity to finally make his own path in life. His attraction to Lucy was not part of his plans he feels like she sees and understands him. He must decide where his future lies.
The book was well written, had perfect pacing, and was very entertaining. The treasure hunt is the perfect subplot and definitely makes me want to read future books. I loved all the intrigue and humor in the clues. The characters are all charming and I can’t wait to see them all again in the next book.
