The Best Man by Lydia Michaels is now live!
Patrick fell for Julie in kindergarten, when she shared her snack with him. As her childhood best friend, he adored and protected her for years, until she gave her heart to someone else. Loving Julie meant letting her choose her own path, so he did the gentlemanly thing and bowed out of her life, but never stopped loving her from afar.
When Patrick returns to Jasper Falls for his brother's wedding, Julie is there--alone--and he decides it's time to hang his heart on the line, but Julie has been keeping secrets, too.
Is it ever too late for a first love? When it comes to Julie Cook, there could never be another. And, this time, Patrick Clooney is determined to prove himself as the best man.
My review:
The Best Man
is the second book in the Jasper Falls by Lydia Michaels. This was a new-to-me author, but I did not
have any problems reading the book as a stand-alone. It was a short book and perfect for reading
in one sitting. Patrick loved Julie
since they were children but stepped aside when she chose to have a
relationship with another man, Lance.
He’s loved her for years and when he returns to Jasper Falls after
taking the position as the local physician, he was thrilled to see her
again. When he learned she had left
Lance, he yearned to have his chance with her.
Although Julie has secrets that might have her returning to the abusive
relationship with Lance. Can she learn
to believe in herself and start a new life for herself in Jasper Falls?
The
storyline of the book was interesting, but I did not feel a connection with the
characters. They did not seem to have
any depth and I would have liked to know more of their past together. All we are told is that Pat fell for Julie in
Kindergarten but none of their history growing up is shared. Julie seems to appear back in town and
magically falls for Pat within days after leaving Lance, her long-term fiancé,
without telling him she is breaking up with him. This was a cute and light romance but felt rushed. I did enjoy the warmth of the story, all the
family banter, and the small town feel of the story.
I received
an ARC and am willingly leaving a review.
All thoughts and opinions are my own.
