LAUREN

I met him on the most devastating night of my life.

After twenty-four years, I discovered there's more than one way to break your marriage vows. The life I thought would always be mine was over, and and I’m now about to face it as a single woman in her forties.

I need a job, somewhere to live, and time to get to know this new version of me.

What I don't need is to be saved by Gabe, the gorgeous, thirty-four-year-old, blue-eyed God I met on a drunken girls' night out.

Do I?

GABE

The night I met her, something shifted inside me.

Burned and scarred in the past by a short-lived marriage, I like my relationships with women drama free and strictly confined to the bedroom. My focus and priority are on being a single parent to my daughter.

But I’m weary of the one and done life. I want something more, something real, with someone who sees past the way I look, beyond my reputation and doesn’t care about the worth of my family’s business.

What I don’t need is to be fighting to prove to Lauren it’s not me, her ex, or her past she needs saving from…it’s herself.

But I just can’t stay away.

Note: this book is a rewritten and expanded version of the previously published title, Saviour, book one.

My review:

Saving Ren is the first book in the Saviour Series and the first book I have read by this author.  The book was fast-paced and but full of emotional rollercoasters.  That being said, please beware of the warning that there are many scenes of domestic violence in the book.  This book is based on a story about domestic violence, and I think the author did a wonderful job handling this sensitive subject.

Lauren’s marriage of twenty-four years has turned into a nightmare the last year.  Her husband Jay has become a different man and physically abusing her.  Lauren finally decides their marriage is over and she is not going to continue being a victim.  She was forty years old and had to restart her life all over again.  She has great friends that were willing to help her.  Meeting a younger man and falling for him at such an awful time in her life was not what she needed but she could not help falling for Gabe.

Gabe only did one-night stands and had never done relationships.  The only woman he wanted in his life was his teenage daughter.  When he sees Lauren in a bar, he knows she is different from most of the women he meets.  He knew she was going through a lot in her life, but he could not stop himself from getting involved.  He needed to keep her safe and her staying with him gave them a chance to explore their relationship.  But he must convince her that he is fully committed to her and their future and that she is the one for him.

This was such a touching story and was heart-breaking.  Gabe’s past was full of tragedy and seeing him open himself up to Lauren was significant.  Lauren’s character had to be strong and brave to get out of her destructive marriage.  She had to leave her life she led for over twenty years and restart over.   Having Gabe for support and encouragement was what Lauren needed.  I really enjoyed this book, but it does leave you hanging at the end.  So now we must wait for the next book to see if Gabe and Lauren’s relationship will withstand all the obstacles to come.

I received an ARC and am willingly leaving a review.  All thoughts and opinions are my own.
