Second Chance Cowboy is the fifth book in the Heroes of Shelter Creek series. It is the first book I have read by this author and was fine reading as a stand-alone. It is a heart-warming, second chance romance with all the small-town charm. The people of Shelter Creek were charming and full of warmth. The pacing is perfect, and the plot was developed.

Veterinarian Emily Fielding had taken over her father’s practice in the small town of Shelter Creek and needed to hire another veterinarian to help with all the work. Coincidentally her first love, Wes Marlow, returns to town and wants the position. He had broken her heart when he had just disappeared from town after high school without ever contacting her or her family. She was afraid to give him another chance but could not deny he would be a great fit for her practice. Wes returned to Shelter Creek hoping to settle down and start over again with Emily. It was his dream and it had helped him to survive since he had left Shelter Creek.

I enjoyed reading this book and am so glad to discover this author. The characters were so genuine, and it was so easy to get lost in the story. Wes was such a great guy, and he gave up so much to raise his younger brother. He really wanted to become part of Emily’s life again but had enough respect for her to allow her the choice. Emily needed someone to help show her how to be fun again, but will she risk her heart again?
